The Lohse Family, Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, Big Island Hawaii

Vacations in sunny Hawaii are the perfect time to schedule a family beach portrait session.  I always LOVE photographing families at the beach! The  sand and water create the perfect soft backdrop for portraits and it’s just a magical place to be. The weather for this session was bright and hot!  But the children were such troopers and held out long enough for us to get some gorgeous photos of this stunning family. Thank you so much Lohse family for trusting me to capture your vacation memories! This session was photographed at the Mauna Kea Beach hotel,  which is fronted by one of  the best beaches on the island,  Kauna’oa beach. The sand is a perfect crescent shape and extends for almost 1/4 mile so you get that gorgeous tropical turquoise color.

Jeannie and Derek, engagement, Kikaua Point Beach, Big Island of Hawaii

I was so excited to do Jeannie and Derek’s firefighter themed engagement session! We met up yesterday at Kikaua Point Beach just north of the Kona Airport on the Big Island and just played, really.  Derek is a volunteer firefighter for the Hawaii Fire Department, Company 7 Bravo, so, we were able to also get some fun photos with him wearing his gear – a first for me and a great opportunity to try some new ideas. I had a great time spending the evening with these two and can’t wait for the wedding in July!

Jordan & Jeremiah, Old Aiport Beach & Royal Kona Resort, Big Island Hawaii

Being a wedding photographer in Kona has its perks, namely the weather.  Let’s just say I’m spoiled with year-round sunnyness…almost every day.  In fact, rain is so infrequent on the beaches here that  most couples don’t have a plan B for the wedding location, so, when we are hit with the occasional rain we usually have to scramble to make last-minute changes to the wedding. This is exactly what was going on yesterday at 4pm, when it started raining at Old Airport Beach, and with Jordan and Jeremiah’s  ceremony scheduled for 5pm.  Now, I think there is something really romantic about the rain. I absolutely love that this adorable couple didn’t let rain on the day of their wedding stop them. I think it really just added to the magic of the day……….because they decided to stay and have the ceremony outdoors on the beach, and the rain just stopped, magically, shortly after Jordan arrived. The wedding ceremony was officiated by Rev. Patrick Thompson and the couple wrote their own vows …which were incredibly touching. We headed back to the Royal Kona Resort for cocktails and dinner and I need to take a moment to thank Brian Scully for orchestrating a beautiful reception.

Natalie and Andrew, Kikaua Point Beach, Big Island Hawaii

Engagement photography is one of my favorites. Andrew proposed to Natalie at Christmas, they had agreed not to exchange stockings this year, but he gave one to her after all, with a diamond ring inside! I love capturing love. Thank you Natalie and Andrew for choosing me to capture your sweet relationship…I was honored!

Caroline and Scott, Hilton Waikoloa Village

Caroline and Scott were married at the Hilton Waikoloa Village, one of my favorite Big island venues! These guys are an amazing couple – so sweet and adorable! The wedding day was truly a reflection of their love and one awesome celebration. The couple got ready early, and then we took pictures before the ceremony to take full advantage of the gorgeous Hawaiian light.  The day was  filled with lots of laughter, happy tears, and joy!
